Finding Quality Kitchen and Home Appliances at Affordable Prices

As I began outfitting my new home, I realized I had a lot of big purchases ahead of me. My budget was tight, so I wanted to be strategic about where I bought my major appliances. A friend suggested I check out the selection at Michaels. I’ll admit, I never thought of Michaels as an appliance store. But with their wide range of products and always-available coupons, it seemed worth investigating.

After browsing online and making a trip to my local store, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of appliances available at Michaels. From refrigerators and dishwashers to vacuum cleaners and air fryers, they had a little bit of everything for outfitting a home. The prices were very reasonable, especially compared to big box appliance retailers. And I was able to find Energy Star certified models to help keep my utility bills in check.

In this blog, I’ll share my experiences shopping for appliances at Michaels, including the selection, prices, brands, and more. I’ll also provide tips for finding the best deals on the appliances you need. Whether you’re equipping a new home or replacing old, worn-out appliances, read on to see if Michaels should be on your shopping list!

Major Kitchen Appliances: Refrigerators, Ranges, and More

When it came to outfitting my kitchen, I knew I needed some major appliances. In particular, a refrigerator, stove/oven range, and dishwasher were must-haves. I browsed the selection at my local Michaels and was able to find several options for these large kitchen appliances.

Refrigerators: Michaels carries french-door, side-by-side, and top-freezer refrigerators in a range of sizes. I saw models from brands like GE, Whirlpool, and LG. The prices ranged from $799 on the low end for a basic top-freezer to $1,899 for a smart refrigerator with a touchscreen panel. The refrigerators were sold as appliance packages – they came with the refrigerator plus delivery, unboxing, and haul away of my old unit. This was a huge perk because installing a refrigerator on your own isn’t easy!

Stove/Oven Ranges: For stovetops and ovens, Michaels had both gas and electric ranges in 30-36 inch sizes. Brands included GE, Frigidaire, and HotPoint. I was impressed by the selection of freestanding ranges; prices ranged from $499-$1,199 depending on features. Many had convection baking modes which I considered a must-have for my new oven.

Dishwashers: No kitchen is complete without a dishwasher! I saw lots of options from Frigidaire, GE, and Whirlpool ranging from $399-$699. Most had stainless steel tubs, high efficiency operation, and room for 14+ place settings. Some higher end models had cool features like a top rack just for silverware and adjustable upper racks. As with the fridges, dishwashers came with delivery and installation.

In addition to these major appliances, Michaels also had smaller kitchen appliances like microwaves, trash compactors, wine fridges, and more. I’ll talk about those in more detail later on.

Laundry and Utility Appliances for Cleaning and Organization

In addition to my kitchen, I also needed some new appliances for laundry and utility rooms. Michaels came through with a great selection of washers, dryers, freezers, and vacuum cleaners.

Washers and Dryers: For clean clothes, every home needs a washer and dryer set. I found lots of options at Michaels with multiple size capacities and features. Prices ranged from $499 for a basic 3.5 cubic ft washer up to $1,099 for a 4.5 cubic ft model with steam cycles and allergen sanitization. Dryers were similar, starting around $399 and going up to $799 for 8 cubic ft capacity and sensor drying. Brands carried included GE, LG, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire.

Standalone Freezers: I don’t have a huge family, but I still wanted an upright freezer for extra frozen storage. At Michaels, they had great deals on 5-7 cubic ft freezers starting at just $349. Brands like Magic Chef, Frigidaire, and Midea offered basic wire shelving and top-mounted controls. And the freezer came with delivery just like the refrigerators and dishwashers.

Vacuums: No appliance is more essential for keeping floors clean than a good vacuum. I needed something for carpets and hard floors. Michaels had lots of options ranging from $99 bagless stick vacuums up to $399 for an upright with powered brushroll and HEPA filtration. Brands included Bissell, Hoover, Shark, and Dyson.

Small Kitchen Appliances: Blenders, Air Fryers, and Multi-Cookers

I also outfitted my kitchen with several small countertop appliances. Blenders, air fryers, instant pots, and coffee makers may be compact in size, but they make a huge difference for quick meals and convenience. Here are some of the top picks I found at Michaels:

Blenders: I use my blender almost daily for smoothies and purees. Michaels had personal and full-size blenders from Ninja, NutriBullet, Oster, and other brands ranging from $49-$199 depending on power and capacity. Lots of options for my daily smoothie habit!

Air Fryers: The air fryer trend shows no signs of slowing down, so I wanted to get on board! At Michaels, they carried air fryers from Cosori, PowerXL, and GoWise in the $99-$159 range. The larger 5-6 quart models can cook enough food for my whole family.

Multi-Cookers: The Instant Pot is life changing for easy homemade meals. Michaels has several electric pressure cooker models starting at $59 for a 6 quart size up to $179 for 8 quart deluxe models. Brands include Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi, and Cosori.

Coffee Makers: What good is a kitchen without coffee? For java lovers, Michaels has regular drip coffee machines, single serve K-cup brewers, espresso machines, and cold brew makers ranging from $25 to $399. They carry trusted brands like Keurig, Ninja, DeLonghi, and more.

Smart Home Appliances for High-Tech Convenience

I’m a fan of helpful smart home technology, so I checked out the selection of connected appliances at Michaels too. They had options like smart robotic vacuums, WiFi-enabled refrigerators, and Alexa-compatible microwaves.

Robot Vacuums: For automatic floor cleaning, Michaels had several robot vacuum models from iRobot, Shark, and Neato. These little guys use floor mapping sensors and apps to clean your floors on their own! Pricing ranged from $199 to $499 depending on run-time and smart features.

Smart Refrigerators: Michaels carries refrigerators enabled with Wi-Fi, touchscreens, and cameras allowing you to check fridge contents and settings from your phone. Samsung, LG, and GE models ranged from $1,799-$2,999.

Smart Microwaves with Alexa: Why manually program a microwave when Alexa can do it for you? Michaels had microwaves from AmazonBasics, GE, and LG ranging from $129-$259 that can be controlled and voice activated using any Alexa device. The perfect kitchen helpers!

While I decided to skip the robotic vacuums and high-tech fridges for now, it was cool to see how Michaels is keeping up with the latest appliance innovations and options. Definitely something to consider for future upgrades down the road.

Price Comparison – Better Deals Than Big Box Retailers

One of the biggest factors for me in shopping at Michaels was the pricing. I compared appliance prices against other major national retailers. Across the board, Michaels offered very competitive rates, and I was able to save 15-25% on average versus buying at places like Home Depot, Best Buy, or Lowes.

Some examples of the savings:

  • GE 30″ Electric Range – Michaels: $599, Home Depot: $749
  • Frigidaire French Door Refrigerator – Michaels: $ 999, Best Buy: $1,199
  • LG Front Load Washer and Dryer Set – Michaels: $1,099, Lowes: $1,399

And unlike big box stores, Michaels regularly runs 10-20% off appliance coupons which offer even deeper discounts off these already low prices. By timing my purchases to combine everyday low prices and stackable coupons, I saved big on outfitting my kitchen. Appliance shopping events around holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day offered even more chances for major savings.

Major Brands: GE, LG, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, and More

In addition to great prices, Michaels also carries all the major national brands for appliances that I know and trust. Models from GE, LG, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and other leading manufacturers helped me find the right appliances with proven quality and performance.

It gave me peace of mind knowing these refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, and washers came from brands with long histories and warranties to back them up. And Michaels offers price matching if I found the identical model cheaper elsewhere, even on major brands.

Some of the brand highlights I saw:

  • GE: Ranges, cooktops, microwaves, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers
  • LG: Refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners
  • Whirlpool: Refrigerators, dishwashers, microwave, ranges, washers, dryers
  • Frigidaire: Ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, freezers
  • KitchenAid: Ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves
  • Samsung: Refrigerators, ranges, microwave, dishwasher, air conditioners

No derivative or off-brand appliances here – Michaels delivered all the top makes and models.

Delivery and Installation – No Heavy Lifting Required

One major advantage of buying large appliances from Michaels is the included delivery and professional installation. When you purchase refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and other major appliances, Michaels coordinates delivery and installation services for you.

This was a huge selling point for me. Delivery fees can really add up at other retailers. And have you ever tried moving a 200 lb refrigerator on your own? Nearly impossible without damage to the appliance or your home. With Michaels, I was able to select a delivery window that worked with my schedule. Their team brought the appliances into my home and unboxed everything. For my refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, and washer/dryer, they removed my old units and hauled them away too.

Watching the installation techs seamlessly install my dishwasher, adjust my refrigerator doors, and ensure everything was running properly gave me real peace of mind. And they cleaned up all the packaging debris so I didn’t have to deal with it. Well worth it for the convenience and to avoid installation headaches and damages.

Energy Efficient Models for Energy Savings

One of my goals for new appliances was maximizing energy efficiency. This helps the environment and saves me money on utility bills over time. I was thrilled to find a great selection of Energy Star certified appliances at Michaels. From refrigerators to dishwashers and air conditioners, they had efficient models across all categories.

Some examples I purchased for my home:

  • LG Energy Star French door refrigerator
  • Bosch 800 series Energy Star dishwasher
  • Whirlpool Energy Star electric dryer
  • Honeywell Energy Star 8,000 BTU portable air conditioner

The bright yellow Energy Star logos made these appliances easy to identify. Product descriptions also highlighted the estimated kWh usage and water consumption so I could compare energy performance. I plan to see real savings of 15-20% or more over time by choosing energy efficient models – which will offset the higher upfront costs.

Warranties and Protection Plans

Making a big purchase like an appliance understandably comes with concerns about repairs and breakdowns. Michaels provided assurance by offering decent warranty coverage on their appliances along with optional protection plans for extended coverage.

For example, the GE refrigerator I bought came with a 1 year manufacturer warranty on parts plus 5 years on the sealed refrigeration system. The Bosch dishwasher had a 2 year warranty. For extra coverage, I also sprung for 2-3 year Michaels protection plans for $79-129 per appliance. That gives me product replacement or repair coverage for mechanical and electrical failures beyond the regular warranties.

Given appliances aren’t cheap and repairs can get costly, I found the protection plans worthwhile for peace of mind. It was also convenient that Michaels coordinates any needed warranty or protection plan service rather than dealing directly with manufacturers. That will make things much easier if issues ever come up down the road.

In-Store Appliance Displays

While I did most of my research online, I also visited my local Michaels store to see some appliance models on display before making final purchase decisions. Viewing the appliances in person helped me get a feel for the overall fit, finish, and aesthetics.

The store had nice full-size displays for refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, washers, and dryers. It was great to open the doors and test the storage space in refrigerators. I could get inside dishwasher and oven models to see the racks and configuration options.

And there was an interactive laundry display where I could turn sample washer and dryer units on to hear noise levels and watch the laundry tumble. Being able to see the appliances up close gave me confidence I was choosing the right models before having them delivered. Definitely recommend visiting your local store.

Easy Online Ordering and Delivery Scheduling

When I decided on my appliance selections, the online ordering process was quick and seamless. Michaels website let me add appliance bundles to my cart just like any normal product. After entering shipping and payment info, I was able to select a convenient 2-hour delivery window a week out.

The site kept me informed with order status updates by email and text as my delivery date approached. 48 hours before my scheduled window, the delivery and install teams contacted me to confirm my appointment.

It was so much easier than having to coordinate multiple delivery appointments across different retailers which would have been a hassle. Michaels kept everything neat and organized in a single purchase. I only had to take one morning off work for installation rather than multiple days. Definitely recommend exploring their online ordering option.

Final Thoughts – My Appliance Shopping Experience

As I reflect on my appliance shopping journey, I’m thrilled that I took a chance on Michaels. I was able to purchase a full suite of kitchen, laundry, and home appliances to outfit my new place for thousands less than going through big box stores. And I still got top national brands, included delivery, and great features.

Beyond the money I saved, the convenient bundled purchases, delivery coordination, and installation services made the whole process seamless and headache-free. I’m enjoying my shiny new appliances every day now in my dream home.

So if you’re looking to buy appliances large or small, I wholeheartedly recommend considering Michaels. You can shop online or visit a local store to evaluate options. Just be sure to take advantage of any available coupons, rebates, and sales to maximize savings. I’m so glad I took a chance and explored beyond the traditional appliance retailers. My home and wallet are thanking me.
