Finding Endless Inspiration and Materials for My Crafting Passion

Scrapbooking has been a beloved hobby of mine for over 10 years now. There’s something so rewarding about taking cherished memories and creatively preserving them in a tangible photo album. The entire process – from picking out paper and embellishments to carefully placing each photo and curating journal entries – brings me so much joy. While there are many retailers that offer scrapbooking supplies, Michaels is hands down my favorite place to shop for all my needs. Their unparalleled selection provides endless inspiration for my projects.

I first discovered Michaels when a friend invited me to a scrapbook workshop there many moons ago. Stepping into the store, I was utterly overwhelmed by the variety of albums, papers, stickers, stamps, tools, and so much more. Fortunately, the employees are extremely knowledgeable and helped me gather supplies suitable for a beginner. I dove into my first album with fervor and was thrilled with the end result. I was officially hooked!

Now I try to visit Michaels at least every couple weeks to stock up on whatever has struck my creative fancy as of late. The store nearest me has an entire section devoted to scrapbooking, making it easy to peruse their vast selection. Let me take you on a little tour of what makes Michaels such a scrappers paradise.

Albums Galore

Naturally, no scrapbook is complete without the actual album to house all your beautiful pages. Michaels has an amazing array of album styles, materials, sizes, and colors. I prefer the post-bound albums with page protectors so I can easily rearrange if needed. Michaels carries trusted brands like We R Memory Keepers and Simple Stories. I’ve also found great unique albums in themes like travel, family tree, and seasonal celebrations.

Some of my favorites include faux leather albums with adjustable straps for a more vintage look, acrylic albums to show off double-sided pages, and compact mini albums for quick projects. The hardest part is deciding on just one or two new albums at a time from all the choices! I wish my wallet would allow me to get them all.

Endless Scrapbook Paper Options

Once I have an album picked out, the fun really starts – choosing coordinating paper! No two scrapbook spreads are alike thanks to the huge spectrum of paper styles and packs at Michaels. I could spend hours flipping through the stacks upon stacks.

They make it easy by grouping their papers into categories like solids, patterns, cardstock, vellum, and more. I love embellishing photos on colorful patterned paper or using bold cardstock to frame pages. Recently I’ve been experimenting with using tissue paper and vellum accents too.

Of course, acid-free and lignin-free paper is a must to preserve photos properly. I’ve had no issues finding quality acid-free papers in all textures and weights at Michaels. They also offer paper pads focused on themes like travel, outdoors, baby, wedding, and holidays – super helpful for tailored projects.

My Favorite Embellishments

Once the foundation of my album and papers is set, I start shopping for embellishments to bring it all to life. This is perhaps the most fun part of scrapbooking for me – those little details that add personality, color, and visual interest. At Michaels, I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to picking stickers, stamps, charms, ribbons, and more!

Some of my go-to embellishments are puffy stickers, alphabet stickers for journaling titles, floral die-cuts, washi tape, enamel shapes, buttons, and wood veneer pieces. The options at Michaels are endless, allowing me to constantly switch up my style. I also love incorporating 3D embellishments for interactive flair – anything from puffy stickers to layered die-cuts.

Every time I browse the aisles, I uncover new trinkets to embellish pages in creative ways. And with seasonal and trendy options rotated throughout the year, there’s always inspiration for my next project theme!

Exclusive Brands and Collections

Beyond the general supplies, Michaels also offers exclusive scrapbooking brands and collections – Studio 18, Paper Studio, Recollections, and more. It’s fun to mix and match coordinated papers, stickers, embellishments, and tools from these brands. I currently have my eye on the Valentine’s Day Recollections collection in shades of red, pink and white – perfect for documenting memories with my sweetheart!

There’s also specialty collaboration collections from popular brands like Maggie Holmes and Amy Tan. I own the Amy Tan Buzz Kill collection with its vibrant tropical vibes. Whenever I’m feeling uninspired, browsing these exclusive lines sparks new ideas and color schemes. Michaels makes the coordination process effortless.

Affordable Prices for Any Budget

With endless options for embellishments and extras, scrapbooking can get pricey. Fortunately, Michaels offers very reasonable prices for scrapbook supplies to fit any budget. I’ve found their in-house brands and basic supplies particularly affordable. Even the name brand items are competitively priced with other retailers.

Of course, discounts and sales amplify the savings! I always check the weekly ad for any paper pads or stickers on sale to stock up. Michaels also sends awesome coupons – I recently got 40% off a single regular-priced item that allowed me to grab a higher-end album. Signing up for their loyalty rewards program provides additional savings over time too.

Between the everyday affordable prices and frequent sales, I never feel guilty indulging my scrapbooking hobby at Michaels. It fits my budget beautifully.

Tailored Kits for Any Occasion

If sifting through endless supplies feels daunting, Michaels also offers curated themed scrapbook kits that are perfect for beginners or quick projects. These provide coordinated paper, stickers, embellishments, and more all in one package tailored to a specific theme – weddings, babies, travel, Christmas, and so much more.

I love using the kits to quickly scrapbook recent vacations or holiday memories. For example, after a beach trip I grabbed a summery travel kit and was able to finish the album in a few evenings. The kits take the guesswork out while still allowing for customization. They’re also reasonably priced for the quality and quantity included.

Helpful Tools and Adhesives

Every good scrapbooker knows quality tools and adhesives are essential. I’ve accumulated quite the collection of tape runners, glue sticks, corner rounders, and paper trimmers from Michaels. Their selection of brand name scrapbooking adhesives is top-notch. I swear by Scotch craft glue and Scotch double-sided tape when attaching embellishments.

For quick layouts, I like repositionable glue dots that hold everything securely while still allowing some wiggle room to get the placement just right. Glue pens are perfect for adding tiny rhinestones and other micro embellishments too. And a good old solid glue stick never fails me! The Repositionable Sticker Glue Pen is genius for mess-free application of stickers.

Beyond adhesives, Michaels is my one-stop-shop for any tool to aid my creative scrapbooking techniques – paper cutters, corner rounders, hole punches, scissors, and more. I’ve taken classes on using die cutting machines and embossing folders to add unique textures too. A quality paper trimmer and cutting mat make quick work of sizing papers. My scrapbook toolbox would be lost without Michaels!

Restocking and New Arrivals

With how frequently I like to scrapbook, I’m grateful that Michaels seems to constantly restock popular supplies and receive new products. Whenever I’m running low on cardstock or need more puffy stickers in my favorite colors, I can always find more at Michaels. If a paper collection I love is retiring, they promptly replace it with something new and trendy.

Last time I was there, I saw they already have new springtime papers and embellishments. I loved scoping out those for inspiration on upcoming Easter and Mother’s Day pages! They seem to add fresh scrapbooking offerings seasonally, so just when I think I’ve seen it all, there’s something new catching my eye. It keeps the hobby feeling energized and fun.

Additional Services for Convenience

Beyond physical products, Michaels offers some amazing services that simplify scrapbooking for me. Custom screen printing is available to personalize albums, papers, or any items with photos and text – perfect for monogrammed albums as gifts. They’ll also professionally bind any project into a book up to 340 pages!

Recently I had Michaels print and bind a 10 year scrapbook album with some of my favorite memories to gift my husband on our anniversary. He absolutely loved seeing our journey together beautifully printed and bound in a hardcover book.

For digital crafters, their Creations app even lets you design custom scrapbook layouts online to pick up in store or have printed and shipped. I’m not very techy, but I appreciate them keeping up with the trends and still value convenience!

Helpful Classes for Beginners

Scrapbooking can definitely have a learning curve when starting out. Luckily, Michaels offers tons of helpful classes and workshops for any skill level! I took a beginner class when I first started on topics like album planning, paper layering, and journaling. It gave me the confidence boost I needed to feel comfortable picking supplies and creating on my own.

They have both in-person and online class options spanning everything from general scrapbooking to using die cut machines to creating custom home decor. The in-store classes allow you to get hands-on experience with different tools too. I always walk away with new techniques for my projects.

For longtime scrapbookers like myself, Michaels also offers inspiration classes with unique themes like shadow boxes, interactive exploding pages, and mixed media techniques. I’m constantly learning new skills thanks to their awesome educational opportunities. It really makes the hobby more fulfilling!
